Article of the Month - At Last! The Secret to Losing
Weight by Crystal
Lewis Don't we
all want that magic pill that will help us lose weight? Well, the
answer really isn't as difficult as you think. It is attainable
without having to starve yourself or spend hours every day sweating
and doing exercises you hate.
Here is the most important
thing you can do to lose weight, be healthy and make it work:
Do it for you and your health. Don't do it just
to be skinnier or because your other half is nagging you or even
because of society's pressure to be thin. You have to mentally
commit to taking the necessary steps to be healthy for your own
sake. This does not mean you have to be model thin, eat only rabbit
food, and work out 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, you
didn't gain the weight overnight, although I'm sure it feels that
way, and unfortunately the weight won't come off overnight. Be
patient and look at the big picture which is your overall health.
The beautiful part is the weight loss will come as a by product of
taking care of yourself.
Here's how it works, there are 3
ingredients that go hand in hand, and one doesn't work without the
two:
- Healthy Diet: Here's the best news, you
don't have to give up everything you love to eat. Moderation is
the key, and this does not mean starve yourself. Consult a
licensed nutrionist to get started.
- Cardio: You need to get your heart rate
up on a regular basis to keep your heart healthy. Start with 15-20
minutes 3 times a week. Find something you enjoy, or at the very
least that you can tolerate in the beginning. It's amazing what
you will find that you come to enjoy.
- Weight Training: Everyone needs some
weight training. You can get a lot done if you do 3 sessions a
week for 30 minutes each.
Consult a Certified Personal
Trainer to help you get started with the Cardio and Weight Training.
Don't stop reading! It really is doable, even
in hectic and busy lifestyles. And the best part is it doesn't have
to overwhelm you. Here a re a few tips on how to attain a healthy
lifestyle, keep your sanity, and have a life.
- Change one thing at a time.
- Don't overwhelm yourself with too many changes at once.
- Take 1 thing from each category and concentrate on that until
you are comfortable with it.
- Once that becomes more of a habit then concentrate on the next
item for each category.
- For example in your diet maybe you want to give up fried
foods, in your cardio you could start walking for 20 minutes
during lunch and for your weight training follow a 20 minute
workout DVD at home 3 days a week.
- Stick with it, make short 4 week attainable goals for
yourself.
- One step at a time and before you know it you'll have
conquered the mountain!
At Loggerhead Fitness we
have all the ingredients to get you going and keep you motivated.
Watch for the upcoming weight loss challenge, the "Summer Meltdown",
which will include personal training sessions and consultations with
a certified nutritionist.

Squat: Stability Ball Against Wall
Difficulty Level: Beginner Muscle
Group: Legs Progression: 1 leg - Intermediate to
Advanced
Benefits: This is an excellent starting
point for learning correct squat technique and to improve
coordination and strength in the lower extremities. Perfect
for those with a history of injury or post-rehab.
Set Up: Place the Stability Ball between the
wall and your lower back. Feet are shoulder width apart, and
in front of the knees. If you have knee problems place your
feet farther out front.
Movement: Slowly lower
yourself, like sitting in a chair, no lower than a 90° bend in
the legs at the knees and hips. Keep hands free, don't lean on
legs. Return to a starting position and repeat.
Remember to listen to your body and don't do anything
that causes pain. Consult a physician before starting any
exercise program.
Consult a certified personal trainer
before attempting this exercise.

Training Tip of the Month by John
Meunier Change
your attitude about fitness. All too often, people think of
exercise as punishment. If this is how you feel, you have already
set yourself up for failure. Instead, think of exercise as a little
time to yourself and a way to improve the quality of your life. You
only get one chance at life, make the most of it!
Fun Fact by Keo
Opton Did you
know that weight bearing exercise such as walking and running are
okay for the lower body but don't contribute to increasing bone
density throughout the WHOLE body as weight training does? Walking
and running only increase bone density in the shin bone: the tibia.
(Wearing ankle or hand held weights while walking or running
stresses joints, so it is not advised.)
Alternative Health Info by Keo
Opton Do you
have Arnica in your gym bag and first aid kit? Arnica is available
as a topical gel that can be applied to sore and fatigued muscles.
It is virtually odorless and will not stain your clothes. Whole
Foods carries it and it is frequently on sale. It's about $8-$10 a
tube. Many massage therapists use it in their oils and lotions, and
one of it's miraculous properties is it helps bruises go away
faster. Overdo it over the weekend? Strain something? Try some
Arnica and you will notice how quickly it helps soreness and assists
in the healing and recovery process from bumps and bruises.
Client Success Story by Jacey
Barnes My name is Paul Piccolo
and I am an active 45 year old male with no health risks. As long as
I can remember, I have always have suffered from intermittent back
pain. I enjoy playing golf, but always experienced that nagging, non
specific, lower back pain every time I played. If only I could learn
how to stretch or someone could assist me in stretching. I met Jacey
Barnes at a party. She said she was a personal trainer. She said to
me "let's meet and discuss a training package that you feel
comfortable with". She assists me in a more specific manner. She is
trained and educated in this type of advanced stretching technique
above and beyond my knowledge.
I have been training with
her two times per week and play golf with no pain. I never thought
it possible for me to last 4 hours on the golf course and actually
smile when I went to hit the ball. I usually winced when I would
swing at the ball. We also work on my posture, foam rolling,
balance, and strength. It's a total package geared just for me. She
spends her time listening to me and shows me the proper way to
stretch. I feel so great and my game has improved.
