Squats

Squats are one of the most important exercises in any exercise routine. Not only will they help you maintain the ability to get off of the toilet as you get older, they also burn more calories per rep than almost any exercise. They activate almost every muscle in your lower body as well as your core! While many people can not, or should not, perform barbell squats, most everyone can perform squats on some level. For example, if you are not able to perform a proper free-standing body weight squat, try a stability ball wall squat instead.

To perform a proper squat, keep your weight in your heels and push your hips back. Always lead with your hips, knees follow, and keep your core tight, with no arch in your back.

Lunges

Lunges are also a great exercises, targeting almost every muscle in your lower body and training balance. While lunges are not for everyone, many people will be able to perform some modification of the lunge.
